Innovation Fellowships

Challenge

The EIT Health Fellowships network is a comprehensive health innovation activity that presents a unique learning experience for participants. The network bridges gaps between industry, academia, and the public sector through the close integration of the programs about the need-led innovation. In doing so, the network provides a platform with unrivalled impact and reach for the learners, granting them access to leading institutions and a diverse group of peers to create products and services that impact patients’ lives.

Solution

The EIT Health Fellowship Network aims to implement 3 programs:
• Innovation Fellowships;
• Starship;
• Transition Doctoral Fellowships.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

The objectives achieved by the EIT Health Fellowships project were:
1. To educate participants from across the industry in needs-driven innovation in healthcare through an intensive 8-10 month participation in multidisciplinary teams in close interaction with real healthcare settings (Innovation Fellowships);

2. Targeted at innovation applied to healthcare needs, there will be four one-week academic workshops and company visits addressing concrete innovation challenges proposed by industry partners (Starship);

3. Addressing the funding gap between completing the PhD thesis and obtaining supplemental funding to provide entrepreneurship and innovation skills training for students, will run for one week in 2 workshops (PhD Transition Fellowships).
