Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), through Phytopatology Lab recently participated in two major international events organised by the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization (EPPO), focused on the diagnosis of harmful plant organisms. The meetings took place in Vienna, Austria.
Joana Costa, Director of FITOLAB, attended as an expert appointed by the Portuguese Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) at the annual meeting of the EPPO Panel on Diagnostics and Quality Assurance, a technical panel dedicated to standards, quality assurance and harmonisation of phytosanitary diagnostic procedures.
She also participated in the EPPO Conference on Diagnostics of Plant Pests — Recent developments and future trends, organised by the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), which brought together around 150 participants from 27 countries, including researchers, laboratory specialists, phytosanitary inspectors and plant protection professionals.
The conference addressed recent developments in plant pest diagnostics, emerging laboratory methodologies, future trends and the challenges of harmonising diagnostic procedures across Europe.
IPN’s participation in these international meetings reinforces its presence within leading phytosanitary networks and contributes to the continuous scientific and technical update of plant health diagnostics and plant protection practices.
