Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) will welcome, on May 22, 2026, the event “From Lab to Investment: Why Research Rigor Matters for Startups”, which will take place at the Auditorium of Building D and will be dedicated to the role of scientific rigor in transforming knowledge into innovation and in the development of startups.
The initiative aims to explore how rigorous, reliable and reproducible research practices can accelerate the transition from scientific discovery to industrial innovation and startup development.
The event will bring together participants from research institutions, organisations and the business sector, featuring national and international experts, including Tracey Weissgerber, EXCELScIOR Team Leader, Jorge Pimenta, Innovation Director at IPN, Joana Branco, Innovation & Ecosystem Development Director at Biocant Park, Gautam Sharma, from Karolinska Institute, and John Ioannidis, from Stanford University, promoting reflection on the importance of solid scientific foundations in creating real-world impact.
In a context where innovation is increasingly crucial for competitiveness, the initiative will highlight the role of transparency, rigor and methodological robustness as key factors for sustainable innovation and investment attraction.
These experts will share different perspectives on the challenges of knowledge transfer to the market, spin-off development and the implementation of rigorous research practices in the scientific context.
