Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) will promote, on 2 and 3 June 2026, the training “Horizon Europe: Designing Proposals that Win”, aimed at researchers, science managers, research support staff, private companies and public entities wishing to strengthen their skills in the preparation and submission of European applications.
The training will take place at the IPN facilities, with a total duration of 14 hours, spread over two days. The course will be delivered in English and combines a theoretical approach with a strong practical component, including applied exercises and workshop sessions.
Throughout the initiative, participants will develop skills for the preparation of competitive proposals within the Horizon Europe programme. Tools and methodologies will be presented for the analysis of programme architecture, interpretation of calls and assessment of the alignment between project ideas and funders’ objectives.
The programme will also allow participants to consolidate knowledge on the structuring of Concept Notes and the development of the main sections of a proposal, namely Excellence, Impact and Implementation, in accordance with the evaluation criteria of the European Commission. Practical skills will also be developed in defining objectives, methodology, Work Packages, Deliverables and Milestones, providing participants with a set of tools applicable to the development of future applications.
The session also includes relevant cross-cutting topics such as Open Science, gender dimension, interdisciplinarity, SSH, Research Data Management, the “Do No Significant Harm” principle and the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence in supporting proposal writing.
The programme includes two practical workshop moments, in which participants will carry out exercises on call deconstruction, definition of Key Exploitable Results (KERs), analysis of results and impacts, and development of Work Plans and Work Packages, with presentation and discussion of results.
The training will be conducted by Marco Liviantoni, senior expert in European funding and founder of Liviantoni Consulting, with more than 20 years of experience in European Union programme funding. He is recognised by the European Commission under the Horizon Results Booster and EC BOOSTER, and has extensive experience in the preparation and review of proposals under Horizon Europe, particularly in collaborative projects (RIA/IA). Throughout his career, he has also delivered training sessions for several leading European research institutions.
