On 24 March 2026, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) welcomed an international delegation of diplomats as part of the second edition of the UN-Portugal Outer Space Fellowship programme, an initiative dedicated to space policy, governance and diplomacy.

The welcome session was led by João Carreira, Innovation Manager at IPN, and was attended by approximately 20 representatives from various countries, including Ecuador, Morocco, Malaysia, Tunisia, Tonga and Burkina Faso.

The presentation of Instituto Pedro Nunes focused on its activities in the space sector, particularly within the framework of European Space Agency (ESA) programmes, highlighting IPN’s contribution to the development of technological solutions and to strengthening the innovation ecosystem in this field.

The session also featured Luís Andrade dos Santos, from UC Business, who presented the University of Coimbra’s main initiatives in the space domain, with particular emphasis on UC SpaceHub.

The programme also included a Q&A session, with the participation of Jorge Pimenta, Director of Innovation at IPN, enabling direct interaction between the diplomats and representatives of the organisations involved.

Following the visit to IPN, the delegation continued its programme in Coimbra, which included visits to other organisations in the sector, namely Open Cosmos and Critical Software, providing a comprehensive overview of the national space ecosystem and fostering knowledge sharing and strengthened cooperation between different countries and organisations.
