Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) hosted, on March 24, 2026, an initiative as part of the SelectUSA Portugal Roadshow Series, dedicated to supporting Portuguese startups, technology companies, and SMEs interested in expanding their operations to the United States.
The event was organized in partnership with the SelectUSA program and promoted by the U.S. Commercial Service of the U.S. Embassy in Portugal, bringing together companies with internationalization ambitions and providing access to strategic information and networking opportunities.
The opening session featured remarks by João Gabriel Silva, President of the Board of Instituto Pedro Nunes, who highlighted the importance of cooperation between Portugal and the United States in strengthening innovation and business competitiveness, emphasizing the role of Instituto Pedro Nunes in supporting startups and the importance of creating conditions for their entry into the world’s largest market.
This was followed by remarks from the U.S. Ambassador to Portugal, John J. Arrigo, who highlighted the potential of the U.S. market and encouraged Portuguese companies to explore growth and investment opportunities in the United States.
One of the central moments of the program was the “U.S. Expansion Panel,” which brought together experts in the legal, strategic, and investment areas, namely Conor Kenny, Manuela Morais, and Pedro Coutinho, moderated by Youqing Ma. The session focused on topics such as the U.S. regulatory framework, market entry strategies, and investment attraction opportunities.
The SelectUSA presentation was delivered by Pedro Ferreira, Senior Commercial Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Portugal, who highlighted the support mechanisms available to foreign companies interested in investing in the United States, including strategic advisory services and connections to regional entities.
The program also included the panel “Coimbra Tech Experience in the U.S.,” where companies shared concrete internationalization experiences. Participants included João Barreto, CEO of Perceive3D, João Brito, Chief Operating Officer of Critical Software, and Pedro Pinto, Co-Founder of Take The Wind, moderated by Jorge Pimenta, Innovation Director at IPN. The speakers highlighted the main challenges associated with entering the U.S. market, as well as growth strategies and adaptation to a highly competitive business environment.
The initiative also included networking sessions, a light lunch, and one-on-one meetings between companies and representatives of different organizations, promoting direct contact with potential partners and key stakeholders in the internationalization process, reinforcing the role of Instituto Pedro Nunes as a driver of innovation and business internationalization, and helping Portuguese companies access new markets and growth opportunities.
