Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), in partnership with Portugal Space, organised and led the national conference Terra em Foco, which took place on 17 and 18 March 2026 at the Departamento de Engenharia Civil, Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra. This initiative brought together 280 participants, marking the largest edition to date, and provided a space for the national Earth Observation community to share knowledge, present innovative solutions, and discuss trends in the fields of space, remote sensing, and geospatial information.

Jorge Pimenta, Director of Innovation, moderated a session dedicated to infrastructures and complementary technologies, focused on systems integration and the development of innovative solutions in the field of Earth Observation. IPN was also represented by Mariana Santa and Gonçalo Brásio, project managers from the Training Department, and António Sampaio, Innovation Manager.

Over the two days, the event featured a diverse programme, including thematic sessions on climate, oceans, forests, agriculture, energy, and artificial intelligence, as well as contributions from national and international experts, workshops, and networking opportunities among stakeholders across the sector. There was also a focus on the use of space technologies for monitoring extreme events and reinforcing resilience to climate change.

The 2026 edition was organised by Portugal Space, in collaboration with the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade de Coimbra, the Centro de Competências para a Informação Geoespacial da Região de Coimbra, Instituto Pedro Nunes, and AED Cluster Portugal, with the support of Development Seed and Geosat.
