On March 10, 2026, the partners of the European project VR Health Champions, coordinated by Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), met in Budapest to assess the progress achieved and align the next steps of the initiative, in a meeting hosted at the facilities of InnoStars.

This mid-term review meeting brought together consortium partners, SMEs, and other stakeholders to review the work carried out so far and plan the activities for the coming months. The meeting also provided an opportunity to take stock of the project’s different work streams, including the development of XR (Extended Reality)-based solutions for the healthcare sector and the exploration of the potential of immersive technologies in the training of healthcare professionals.

Cristiana Costa, Coordinator of IPN R&D Impact Unit, highlighted that this review moment represents an important opportunity to consolidate the work developed so far and prepare the next steps of the initiative, strengthening collaboration among partners and bringing technological solutions closer to their application in real healthcare settings.

Among the topics discussed was also the progress of the five SMEs involved in the project, .Lumen, MedApp S.A., MEEVA, Metaskills, and Virtuleap, whose solutions are currently in testing and validation phases.

Kirill Dimanopoulos, Project Adviser at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), emphasised that initiatives such as VR Health Champions demonstrate the potential of European collaboration to accelerate the development of innovative technologies in healthcare and bring digital solutions closer to their practical use in clinical settings.

As the project coordinator, IPN plays a central role in facilitating collaboration among partners and driving the consortium’s activities, contributing to the development of XR-based solutions applied to the healthcare sector.
