The Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) has formalised its adherence to the Circular Economy Pact for the Central Region, an initiative promoted by the Regional Coordination and Development Commission for the Central Region, I.P. (CCDR Centro). The Pact aims to raise the profile of regional initiatives already underway in the field of the circular economy, while promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening cooperation between the various actors in the territory.
In the 2026-2027 biennium, the IPN will join three Communities of Practice of the Pact: Scientific and Technological Research, Education and Training, and Responsible Consumption, Awareness and Social Involvement.
Participation in these communities will allow the IPN to deepen its contribution to circularity through the following actions:
- Dissemination of results and good practices from more than 10 R&D projects currently underway with national and international partners. These projects address topics such as: recovery of photovoltaic waste; development of sustainable and safe alternatives to plastic in everyday life; recovery of construction and demolition waste through 3D printing; creation of new renewable-based components and technologies for the automotive industry, among others.
- Promotion of the activities of the DESCARBONIZA project, funded by PT2030, which supports the transition of the agri-food sector to a carbon-neutral and circular model. The project aims to empower companies in the sector to improve their environmental and energy performance, contributing significantly to decarbonisation.
- Providing a market for local short-circuit products as an opportunity to improve work-life balance by bringing the market to IPN, allowing purchases to be made from the workplace and simultaneously promoting short marketing circuits for local quality production and products, favouring the sustainability of production and sellers in the municipality of Coimbra: GOLDEN CAP, VERDES DO MONDEGO, SUPER LOCAL, QUINTA DO ZORRO, IDEIAS GOURMET.
With this membership, IPN reaffirms its commitment to promoting the transition to a more circular, collaborative and sustainable economy in a collaborative approach with companies, promoting innovation as a driver of competitiveness.
