Institute Pedro Nunes (IPN), through its incubator HIESE (Habitat for Business Innovation in Strategic Sectors), was the big winner in the ‘Digital Transformation’ category during the III Erasmus+ Awards Gala. The distinction rewards the success of the Rural Creative Labs project, an initiative that puts technological innovation at the service of the development of low-density territories.
The award, presented by the National Agency Erasmus+ Education and Training, recognises the IPN's commitment to combating info-exclusion and promoting the retention of talent in the interior of the country. The project stood out for creating new training dynamics for young adults, combining practical learning with entrepreneurship.
Technology as a driver of territorial cohesion
Rural Creative Labs was born out of the need to bring digital skills closer to rural populations, demonstrating that innovation is not exclusive to large urban centres. Through this initiative, conditions were created for participants to develop essential skills to face the challenges of the current and future labour market.
The success of the project was the result of strong European cooperation, with the strategic partnership of the FARE Association (Italy) and Fablab León (Spain). This synergy enabled the exchange of international best practices and the development of innovative teaching methodologies focused on adult education.
‘This distinction validates our mission to bring innovation to the entire territory. Rural Creative Labs proves that, with the right tools and committed partners, it is possible to transform the reality of low-density areas, empowering young people with the digital skills they need for the future,’ says Salomé Dias, Executive Director of HIESE.
The awarding of this Special Prize reinforces IPN's position not only as a driver of technology transfer, but also as an active agent in social and digital inclusion. The institute thus reaffirms the importance of continuing to invest in education and the revitalisation of rural areas, promoting real opportunities for growth with the support of structural programmes such as Erasmus+.
Erasmus+ is the European Union's programme to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. With a strong focus on social inclusion, green and digital transitions, and promoting young people's participation in democratic life, the programme offers mobility and cooperation opportunities to millions of Europeans.
