On September 23, 2025, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) welcomed students from the Portuguese National Association of Biomedical Engineering Students (ANEEB) for a visit that showcased IPN’s ecosystem of innovation, incubation, and applied research.

The program started with a presentation about IPN by Marta Salgado Costa, Communication and Marketing Manager, who highlighted the Institute’s role in fostering technology transfer and supporting entrepreneurship, as well as its historical connection to Pedro Nunes.

This was followed by Ana Brito, Coordinator of the Medical Devices Regulatory Unit (MDRu), who presented the activities of the Automatics and Systems Lab (LAS) and MDRu, focusing on services in the medical devices area and innovative health and telerehabilitation solutions.

Later in the afternoon, the students attended a presentation of the Medical Devices Testing and Validation Sub-Unit (ITV) by Maria Viegas Nascimento, Client and Partnerships Manager, and a demonstration of the Robotic Tele-ultrasound System by Researcher Lúcia Neves. This robotic system enables remote ultrasound examinations through two ergonomic stations – one placed next to the patient and the other operated by the healthcare professional.

The visit concluded at the incubated company Blueworks, guided by CEO Paulo Barbeiro, where the students learned more about the startup’s technological solutions for the healthcare sector, particularly in the field of ophthalmology.
