On 15 May, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) received a visit from EARTO - European Association of Research and Technology Organisations, as part of its participation as a member of this prestigious European network.

EARTO represents more than 350 research and technology organisations (RTOs) across Europe, promoting innovation through close collaboration between research centres, universities, companies and public bodies.

During the meeting, IPN presented its strategic pillars of action, which include applied research, the promotion of innovation, stimulating the entrepreneurial spirit, incubating and accelerating ideas and businesses, as well as advanced and specialised training. Opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of the current and future European funding framework were also discussed.

IPN's integrated model was presented, which brings academia closer to the business community and promotes entrepreneurship among researchers and students. In 28 years of activity, IPN has supported more than 490 companies, of which more than 60 per cent are still in operation, generating more than7,400 highly qualified jobs and returning to society a value 14 times greater than the public investment received.

This meeting reinforced the unavoidable role of RTOs as a fundamental link between research, companies and industry, and highlighted the importance of these institutions in implementing public policies geared towards competitiveness and innovation. It was also an opportunity to emphasise IPN's strategic contribution to strengthening the innovation ecosystem at regional, national and European level.
