Through DRIVEN, an international project with a budget of over one million euros, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) will help create a Spanish-Portuguese innovation ecosystem to direct research resources and capacities towards the challenges facing companies in Extremadura, the Centre of Portugal and Alentejo.

This project, co-funded by the Interreg VI Spain-Portugal Programme (POCTEP) 2021-2027, aims to create a Spanish-Portuguese innovation ecosystem to direct research resources and capacities towards the challenges faced by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the EUROACE Euroregion. This joint effort aims to boost industrial transformation and technology-based entrepreneurship, taking advantage of the competitive advantages and opportunities offered by the EUROACE Euroregion.

Until 2026, DRIVEN aims to direct the resources and capacities of research and technological development in the cross-border area towards the strategic challenges of the business fabric, with special attention to industrial SMEs.

To this end, a programme of activities and strategic actions has been set up, such as the creation and promotion of a EUROACE open innovation observatory, a process through which companies express their challenges to the scientific and technological community so that, through cooperation, possible ideas and solutions can be brought together, thus assuming a lower risk than if they had to develop their own solutions internally. The observatory will be complemented by training actions and specific processes for identifying and launching individual and sectoral challenges for the EUROACE industry.

Subsequently, a platform will be created to bring together all the project's information and initiatives, allowing for the exchange and sharing of knowledge, the identification of technological solutions and the development of pre-acceleration, incubation and acceleration programmes for new business initiatives.

The project led by FUNDECYT-PCTEX involves, in addition to IPN, the Cáceres Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services and its counterpart in Badajoz; the Alentejo Science and Technology Park (PACT); the Alentejo Regional Development Agency (ADRAL) and the Innovation Centre in the Centre of Portugal (TAGUSVALLEY).
