The Instituto Pedro Nunes Incubator is in the top ten of the best incubators in the world in the category of University Business Incubators. It is the only Portuguese incubator on the list. The ranking, corresponding to 2021-22, is conducted by UBI Global, a Swedish research and consultancy agency recognized for evaluating and gathering the best incubators worldwide.

The IPN Incubator maintains and consolidates its position as one of the ten Best incubators in the world promoted by universities, which it had achieved in previous editions of the same ranking, the last of which was published in 2019.
The ranking awarded results from a comparative study, the UBI World Benchmark Study 2021-2022, which selected 109 incubation and acceleration programs from a universe of 1895 programs located in 56 countries to highlight and present the development of the incubation industry, as well as showing its trends in technology and the impact on the ecosystem of startups and the economy. The UBI Global ranking is built on the analysis of 21 key performance indicators, such as Economy Development, Talent Retention, Access to Funds, and access to national and international partner networks.

"Being recognized as one of the top ten University Business Incubation programs in the world has a significant meaning for our entire team, our University, and of course, our entrepreneurs because they are the real stars and the main people responsible for this. Therefore, it is an honor to be part of this exclusive group of amazing incubators worldwide and to have the opportunity to share experiences and learn from all of them. Furthermore, the benchmark made by UBI Global is an essential tool to help evaluate and improve our program permanently," says Paulo Santos, Executive Director of the IPN-Incubadora.

Also, for João Gabriel Silva, President of the IPN and the IPN-Incubator, "the attribution of this distinction, once again, proves that supporting the development of highly differentiated projects, many coming from knowledge generated at the University of Coimbra, but also with other local, national and international origins, is a winning strategy, not only for us but also for the city - region of Coimbra and for the country. Therefore, it is an honor and a responsibility to see our effort being consistently recognized in this ranking".

Amílcar Falcão, Dean of the University of Coimbra, considers it "a great pride for the University of Coimbra that its incubator reaches such a high level in the world scenario of incubation programs, specifically in the group of university incubators, which shows that the knowledge generated at the UC, which the IPN channels to the economy, is of worldwide value."

The IPN Incubator, which has supported the birth and development of more than 400 technology-based companies since 1995, has already been through some of the most prominent technology companies in Portugal, such as FEEDZAI, Critical Software, WIT Software, Crioestaminal, Active Space Technologies or Take the Wind, among many other references of the Portuguese entrepreneurial scene in the last 25 years. Besides the University of Coimbra, also the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and the Nursing School of Coimbra are partners of the IPN Incubator.

This level of performance makes the IPN a European reference entity in supporting technological entrepreneurs and has attracted, for example, the interest of the ESA - European Space Agency, which, since 2014, has entrusted it with the creation and management of its incubation and entrepreneurship program based on space technologies in our country, the ESA BIC Portugal.
