RYME+
Transnational network of internationalization's support for SMEs: Innovative matching and mentoring

Challenge

The productive structure of Southwest Europe (SUDOE) is characterized by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which, due to the fragility of their financial resources, limited ability to access finance and lack of knowledge about the specificities of foreign markets, face the challenge to compete internationally with larger competitors.

Solution

The RYME+ project focused on this issue, having as its main objective to support the international development of innovative SMEs and contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the SUDOE territory (Spain, France and Portugal).

The RYME+ project arose in order to capitalize on the results of the predecessor RYME project that ran between 2012 and 2014. RYME (SME Reactivation: Innovation and International) was a European project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) through the Cooperation Program Interreg IV-B Southwest Europe 2007-2013 (SUDOE), which developed and tested a methodology for the internationalization of companies in the SUDOE territory.

Objectives, Activities and Results expected / achieved

By adapting the internationalization methodology already developed and its implementation on the RYME+ web platform (www.ryme-international.com), the project aimed to contribute to the development of at least 100 companies in the SUDOE territory in the following sectors of activity: Health&Wellness; Energy; Materials and industrial sustainability; Smart Cities; ICT and Creative Industries.

With the RYME+ project, the companies selected to participate in the project had access to the following benefits: international networking, mentoring, commercial preparation, training in foreign markets, interaction with other innovative companies through the organization of speed meetings and the opportunity to participate in trade missions to Brazil, USA and Uruguay or to go on a benchmarking mission to Israel, with the objective of sharing good practices in entrepreneurship and technological development.
