On September 30, 2026, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) hosted the Final Demonstration Session of the Digital Cork Project focused on "Digitalization and artificial intelligence in cork quality control". The gathering brought together experts from Cork Supply, IPN, and the University of Coimbra (UC) to showcase the latest technological solutions applied to the cork industry. The afternoon began with a presentation by Cork Supply, highlighting the project's motivation and objectives under the motto "Every cork counts," setting the scene for the current industrial challenge. setembro de 2026, no Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), a Sessão Final de Demonstração do projeto Digital Cork focada na “Digitalização e inteligência artificial no controlo de qualidade de rolhas”. O encontro reuniu especialistas da Cork Supply, do IPN e da Universidade de Coimbra (UC) para dar a conhecer as mais recentes soluções tecnológicas aplicadas à indústria da cortiça.
The afternoon began with a presentation by Cork Supply, highlighting the project's motivation and objectives under the motto "Every cork counts," setting the scene for the current industrial challenge.
Next, the IPN team guided participants on the journey "From cork to digital," demonstrating in practice how the transition from physical corks to their digital representation works and exploring the features of this new solution.
The role of Artificial Intelligence and advanced technology was reinforced by presentations from the University of Coimbra. Researchers demonstrated how artificial intelligence models are learning to classify corks and detect defects, further innovating with the presentation of augmented reality tools to support visual quality control.
The event concluded with a demonstration session, during which the participants were able to try out the solutions developed in the project.
