The IPN promotes innovation and supports technology-based entrepreneurship through activities such as coordinating and participating in European and national projects, providing support on intellectual property matters, organising business idea acceleration programmes, and fostering internal innovation within companies and other organisations.
Of particular note is its partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), through the ESA Space Solutions Portugal programme aimed at boosting the space economy, incubation programmes, funding management and brokerage technology brokerage, and with NATO through the DIANA programme.
The Department for Knowledge and Innovation (VCI) promotes innovation and supports technology-based entrepreneurship through activities such as:
Coordination of and participation in innovation and entrepreneurship projects at regional, national and European level. The VCI has extensive experience in this field, having already coordinated and participated in European projects (e.g. H2020, Interreg) and national projects (e.g. SAACs), amongst others.
Support for businesses, entrepreneurs, researchers and students at higher education institutions and within the National Science and Technology System on matters relating to industrial property (prior art searches in databases, drafting of patent applications or other industrial property rights).
Organisation of business idea acceleration programmes for the National Science and Technology System, companies and local innovation ecosystems.
Activities to foster internal innovation processes, workshops on innovation and the creation of new products and services, from the ideation phase through to the development of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and its presentation to potential stakeholders.
VCI coordinates ESA Space Solutions Portugal, where it is responsible for implementing the European Space Agency’s (ESA) programmes for the transfer of space technology to terrestrial applications, boosting the space economy at national level through incubation programmes and funding management, as well as acting as a technology broker.
