The course is designed for researchers, academic staff, research fellows, and Research and Development managers and technicians involved in research, innovation, scientific literature review, and/or the preparation of funding applications, who wish to integrate Generative Artificial Intelligence tools into their work processes.

The training aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to integrate Generative Artificial Intelligence tools into their work processes in a critical, effective, and responsible manner, optimising research, literature review, proposal writing, and project structuring, while ensuring ethical standards and scientific integrity.

Throughout the training, participants will explore the main capabilities, limitations, and risks associated with the use of Generative AI in research, as well as tools to support scientific research and literature review. They will also have the opportunity to explore advanced prompting techniques, use AI for the review, editing, and translation of scientific texts and proposals, support hypothesis generation and the methodological design of research projects, and learn verification and validation strategies to mitigate hallucinations, biases, and errors produced by AI systems.

The course comprises a total of 24 hours and will take place on 27, 28, and 29 October, from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. 

Participation is limited to a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 participants.

The programme is organised into five modules. The first module provides an introduction to Generative AI for researchers, including intelligent research tools, citation analysis, and scientific literature synthesis. The second focuses on prompt engineering for scientific writing and proposal structuring. The third addresses support for proposal writing and editing, including the review, translation, and adaptation of content. The fourth module focuses on the use of AI in research and innovation, namely for hypothesis generation, methodology definition, and the simulation of research scenarios. The fifth module addresses good practices and ethics, covering the mitigation of errors and biases, copyright and intellectual property, and European Union guidelines on transparency and scientific integrity.

The training will be delivered by Nuno Cunha, CEO of AAVANZ (a funding consultancy) and innovation consultant for several high-tech start-ups in the fields of IT, Aerospace, Health, Gaming, AR/VR, and Digital Twins. He has experience in the implementation and management of technology development projects and innovation initiatives in R&D, particularly in developing ideas for project implementation, securing funding, and bringing developed solutions to global markets. He specialises in funding mechanisms and incentives for business, innovation, and R&D initiatives.

IPN is a training provider certified by DGERT (2376/2016). Participants will receive a Professional Training Certificate upon completion of the training. To pass the course and obtain the certificate, participants must attend all 24 scheduled hours.
