On September 30, 2026, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) will host the Final Demonstration Session of the Digital Cork Project focused on "Digitalization and artificial intelligence in cork quality control". The event will showcase the technological results of a project that brings together IPN, the University of Coimbra (UC), and Cork Supply.
Starting at 2:30 PM, the session will kick off with Cork Supply framing the industrial challenge and outlining the project's objectives under the motto "Every cork counts". Next, IPN’s team will take the stage to explain the transition "From cork to digital," culminating in a practical demonstration of the new solution's features and the digital cork representation.
The final stretch of the event will be led by researchers from the University of Coimbra, who will explore how Artificial Intelligence models can learn to classify corks and detect defects with high precision. An innovative perspective using Augmented Reality to support visual quality control will also be presented. The gathering will conclude with an open space for Q&A and discussion.
