The Plant Health Laboratory (FITOLAB) works to detect and investigate plant pests and diseases, contributing to the promotion of agricultural and forestry plant health.
We provide specialised services in the field of official plant health controls, while seeking to respond to the increase in activities in the detection and investigation of pests and diseases affecting horticultural, fruit and forest species.
Fitolab is designated by the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Veterinary Services as "Official Laboratory" for the detection of Quarantine Pests.
Fitolab is accredited by the Portuguese Accreditation Institute (IPAC), in accordance with the NP EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 standard. You can consult the Technical Accreditation Annex.
We also have authorisation from Infarmed to conduct trials with Cannabis sativa plants, in accordance with applicable legislation.
The study of the microbiome present in various matrices is another area of expertise at FITOLAB. This approach allows us to determine the structural diversity of communities, as well as their relative abundance, associating a prediction about their presence and potential function for the environment/ecosystem.
FITOLAB is supervised by researchers and lecturers linked to the Centre for Functional Ecology of the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra, acting as a link between academic excellence and the search for innovative solutions to market challenges. FITOLAB thus brings together skills, knowledge and responsiveness, ensuring quality and speed in its assessments.
