Development of nonwoven (NWT) fibres from renewable sources for the automotive industry

Challenge

To develop nonwoven (NWT) fibres from renewable sources for the automotive industry.

Solution / Main Objective

To replace the PP fibres used in nonwoven (NWT) production with PLA fibres reinforced with additives to improve their mechanical properties, while also ensuring good thermal and acoustic insulation as well as vibration damping.

Objectives, Activities and Expected/Achieved Results

Development of PLA derivatives to modify the properties of PLA formulations for nonwoven (NWT) production; Development of PLA-based formulations for NWT production by spunbond technology; Production of PLA-based nonwovens with mechanical performance sufficient to replace PP-based NWTs
