MINEPIPE

Development of PE100-based formulations with high abrasion resistance for the production of high-performance pipes

Challenge

To develop PE100-based formulations with high abrasion resistance for the production of high-performance pipes.

Solution / Main Objective

To develop new polymer formulations that enable the production of pipes with high abrasion resistance while also ensuring the possibility of recycling the materials at the end of their service life. New processing
agents will be synthesised to reduce the melt viscosity of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), thereby improving its compatibility with PE100 and enabling their co-extrusion.

Objectives, Activities and Expected/Achieved Results

Development of additives that enable the processing of UHMWPE/PE100; Extrusion processing of UHMWPE/PE100 blends; Improvement of the abrasion resistance of PE100-based formulations; Development of a highly abrasion-resistant, recyclable pipe for the mining industry.
