Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) hosted, on 21 April 2026, a visit from the Monitoring Committee of the Centro Regional Programme (Centro 2030), as part of the biannual mission to monitor the implementation of the operational programme in the Centro region.
The delegation included representatives of CCDRC Managing Authority, European Commission, EMPIS – Portugal Inovação Social, and Agência para o Desenvolvimento e Coesão.
The aim of the visit was to gain on-the-ground insight into projects supported by Centro 2030, namely initiatives funded by FSE and FEDER. In this edition, the selected project was Fator C’Idade, a social innovation incubator promoted by IPN in partnership with Fundação Bissaya Barreto and Coimbra Coolectiva.
The opening session featured a welcome address by João Gabriel Silva, President of the Board of Instituto Pedro Nunes, who highlighted the importance of the initiative in the context of innovation and social impact in the Centro region. This was followed by the framework remarks from Ribau Esteves, President of CCDRC.
A presentation was then delivered by Filipe Almeida, President of the Portugal Inovação Social Mission Structure, on EMPIS (Portugal Social Innovation Mission Structure) and the Impact Entrepreneurship Centres, which include Fator C’Idade. The programme continued with the presentation of the Fator C’Idade project by Jorge Pimenta, Director of Innovation at Instituto Pedro Nunes, highlighting its objectives, intervention model, and contribution to the development of innovative solutions in the field of social innovation. The project partners, Fundação Bissaya Barreto and Coimbra Coolectiva were also introduced.
The agenda also included a panel featuring two guest projects that participated in the first edition of Fator C’Idade annual initiatives cycle: Circul’Arte, presented by Assunção Ataíde and Nelson Martins, and SoWise, presented by Sofia Pereira, moderated by Vilma Reis, Editorial Director of Coimbra Coolectiva.
Among those present were institutional representatives and project partners, including Patrícia Viegas Nascimento, President of Fundação Bissaya Barreto; Teresa Monteiro, Head of the Training Centre of Fundação Bissaya Barreto; Vilma Reis, Editorial Director of Coimbra Coolectiva; Carla Duarte, Innovation Manager at Instituto Pedro Nunes; and Isabel Gomes, Project Manager of Fator C’Idade.
Fator C’Idade also involves social investors such as Câmara Municipal de Coimbra, Black Monster Media, GEHC – Global Elderly Health Care and Climacer, represented at the session by António Carlos Albuquerque, Director of the Economic Development Department of Câmara Municipal de Coimbra; Jorge Lemos and Fernando Queirós, founders of Black Monster Media, and Luís Pardal, Managing Director of GEHC.
The session concluded with closing remarks and a brief reflection on the role of social innovation projects in regional development, reinforcing the importance of Centro 2030 monitoring and the coordination between public, private, and social entities in promoting territorial impact.
