Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), in partnership with MIA-Portugal, promoted the first edition of the capacity-building programme “From Lab Notes to M(I)Arket Quotes”, between 13 and 16 April 2026, an initiative dedicated to promoting innovation and knowledge transfer in healthcare and ageing.

The first edition of the programme brought together three teams, Orgotalk, Longevity Companion and StratamiR, for an intensive training journey, culminating in the Demo Day. Across the four days, participants took part in a set of sessions focused on the valorisation of scientific projects, including value proposition development, business models, go-to-market strategies, intellectual property protection, funding opportunities and pitch preparation.
The programme included moments of teamwork and interaction with mentors, including project development sessions, as well as a verbal and non-verbal communication workshop led by Mariana Amado, enabling the practical application of the content covered throughout the training.

During the programme, participants engaged with several leading experts and speakers, including Carla Duarte, Innovation Manager at IPN, José Ricardo Aguilar, Legal Advisor at IPN, Ana Jegundo, Director of Planning and Organizational Management at IPN, Jorge Pimenta, Innovation Director at IPN, Alexandre Almeida, Incubation Manager at IPN, Marta Passadouro, Ecosystem Lead at InnoStars Portugal and Ricardo Vieira-Pires, Community Lead at InnoStars Portugal. Mentorship was provided by Ana Maria Alves, Clara Luxo Correia, Daniela Pinheiro, João Carreira, Innovation Managers at IPN, Ana Seguro, Incubation Coordinator at IPN, and José Rodrigues, Business Developer at IPN, ensuring close support for the teams.

The Demo Day featured a jury composed of Ricardo Vieira-Pires, Community Lead at InnoStars Portugal, Vanessa Azevedo, Innovation Manager at UC Business, and Isabel Gomes, Founder and Project Manager at Fator C’Idade, who evaluated the final pitch presentations, taking into account scientific quality, innovation potential and the applicability of the proposed solutions.

According to Sofia Varanda, Director of Innovation at MIA-Portugal, “This was a great opportunity for participants to get to know the ecosystem, understand the challenges associated with technology valorisation and realise what is needed for market entry”. She also highlighted the quality of the proposals presented and expressed her expectation for the continuation of the initiative, stating that she hopes to “welcome new participants and researchers interested in the next editions of the programme”.

The StratamiR team was awarded the final prize, standing out for the impact and maturity of their project.
The first edition of “From Lab Notes to M(I)Arket Quotes” reinforces the commitment of Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) and MIA-Portugal to promoting scientific knowledge transfer and fostering a healthcare innovation ecosystem, contributing to the development of solutions with impact on longevity and population well-being.
