IPN leads first Beyond 5G/6G trial of the European project 6G-VERSUS

On 12 February, the first Beyond 5G / 6G technology trial of the European project 6G-VERSUS took place at APARA’s facilities, located in the Coastal Fishing Port of Aveiro.
The trial was led by Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), in collaboration with project partners JSIO, OneSource, IT Aveiro and Porto de Aveiro, and showcased how next-generation communication technologies can support more sustainable and efficient port operations, reinforcing environmental protection and digital transformation in line with the European Green Deal.
The session brought together actors/stakeholders from multiple sectors, strengthening the project’s commitment to real-world validation and cross-sector collaboration.
This trial focused mainly on AI-based, energy-efficient environmental monitoring in port areas, enhancing the environmental response and safety capabilities of port authorities and operators.
Near real-time environmental monitoring provides direct benefits, particularly in the early detection of incidents, supporting faster response and improved decision-making.
6G-VERSUS is a European research and innovation project exploring the frontiers of 6G technology through a series of trials and six pilot sites across Europe, developing tools and technologies to be applied to different real-life use cases.
The project is funded under the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) within the Horizon Europe programme.
