Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN), as part of TEF-Health - Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics, announces the opening of a call for proposals for startups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in all European Union (EU) Member States in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics in healthcare.


TEF-Health is a European Commission initiative that aims to streamline the process of certifying and testing technology based on artificial intelligence and robotics in healthcare by establishing a network of testing and experimentation infrastructures in 9 European countries. Instituto Pedro Nunes leads the national consortium, which includes the Coimbra Local Health Unit (ULS Coimbra), São João Local Health Unit (ULS São João), the Ministry of Health's Shared Services, Health Cluster Portugal and EIT Health Innostars. As well as leading the national network, IPN will also be one of the providers of specialised services and will support SMEs and startups in the regulatory and certification support areas, as well as testing solutions in a laboratory environment.

TEF-Health, a pioneering initiative in the healthcare Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, is excited to announce a unique call opportunity for startups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across European Union (EU) member states. This call is designed to empower innovators in the healthcare industry, providing them with unparalleled support to bring their AI and robotics solutions to the market efficiently.

About the Call:
TEF-Health is equipped to provide validation services for AI and robotics-based solutions across various medical domains. This call is a gateway for startups and SMEs to identify ideal partners for collaboratively designing and conducting validation studies for groundbreaking healthcare products or services rooted in AI or robotics technology.

Benefits for Selected Applicants:
Startups and SMEs selected through this call will benefit from a comprehensive roadmap that includes:
· Matchmaking with Portuguese TEF-Health service providers.
· Access to services not currently available in the market.
· Service quotations from Portuguese TEF-Health providers.
· Signature of adhesion agreement.
· Implementation of TEF-Health services.
· Product/pilot evaluation report after service implementation.
· A final product/pilot with Technology Readiness Level (TRL) ranging between 5 and 9.

State Aid and Discounts:
Selected candidates may receive state aid as discount fees on services, under applicable conditions, including:
Innovation aid for SMEs, not exceeding €200,000 per company over 3 financial years or,
De Minimis aid, not exceeding €200,000 per company over 3 financial years.

Who Can Apply:
Startups and SMEs from EU member states are eligible to apply if they fulfill certain criteria, including being legally incorporated in an EU member state, meeting the EU definition of an SME, and demonstrating a minimum TRL of 4 for their AI or robotics solutions.

Application Process:
The application process involves several phases, including eligibility assessment, evaluation, and approval to gain access to the Portuguese TEF-Health services catalogue.
