Postgraduate Medical Devices students and lecturers visit IPN

On 13th July, students from the postgraduate programme in Medical Devices of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, participated in a technical visit to Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN).

The delegation of 12 people, including postgraduate students and teachers, began with a presentation of the IPN, during which they were welcomed by Viviana Gomes, Luiza Almeida and Eugénia Peixoto from the Laboratory Ffor Automation and Systems (LAS). During the presentation, topics such as innovation, research and entrepreneurship in the area of medical devices were addressed, and some projects developed at the institute were highlighted.

The group then went to the IPN incubator, where they were guided by Ana Seguro, Incubation Manager. The students had the opportunity to meet some health startups and interact with entrepreneurs and realise how ideas are being transformed into real products and services. The visit continued with Clara Luxo, from the Department of Valorisation of Knowledge and Innovation (VCI).

Finally, the participants went to the Laboratory for Automation and Systems (LAS), where again Viviana and Eugénia, together with Luiza Almeida, presented some of the ongoing research and projects in the area of medical devices. The visit to LAS provided a deeper look into the technologies used in the development and improvement of medical devices, such as diagnostic equipment and monitoring systems.
