FITOLAB (Laboratory for Phytopathology) works on the detection of and research into plant pests and diseases with the aim of improving plant health in agriculture and forestry.
What we do
FITOLAB is dedicated to the detection of and research into plant pests and diseases affecting horticulture, fruit production and forestry. It is an independent phytopathology laboratory, supervised by researchers from the University of Coimbra, which combines skills, and knowledge with the capacity to deliver a prompt quality service.
Fields of activity
Assess the presence of quarantine organisms (bacteria, fungi, nematodes and viruses) in plants and substrates through microscopy, biochemical and molecular techniques;
Detect plant pests and diseases rapidly, thereby promoting plant health in nurseries and agricultural and forestry systems at a national level;
Raise awareness among stakeholders and in society of noxious organisms and their damage to crops;
Contribute to increased agricultural yields and forestry and fruit production in the central region of Portugal, thus improving the national economy.
