On July 28th, Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) got a visit from the Management and Business Department of the International Space University (ISU).

The visitors had the opportunity to get to know ESA Space Solutions Portugal, which is coordinated by IPN. They were also able to share ideas and experiences with some of the incubated companies, namely, Spotlite, Spaceway, Cityoo, Best Health 4U and Space Engineer.

It was Jorge Pimenta, IPN’s Director of Innovation, who presented IPN and all the work done within the scope of the Economy of Space. Neta Vitzel, lecturer at ISU, talked about how to build an initial winning team for a startup.

ESA Space Solutions Portugal is a “one-stop-shop” for space opportunities and re-purposing space technology. From “downstream” applications to what is called “new space”, at IPN we help talent and knowledge in the space-related area to be used in new applications and business areas and bring “space down to Earth”.

IPN leads the first ESA Space Solutions Centre, among the 21 existing centres in Europe since 2014, congregating the three technology transfer programs promoted by ESA: ESA Business Incubation Centre, ESA Technology Broker, and ESA Business Application Ambassador Plataform.

Headquartered in Strasbourg, France, the International Space University is the sole university worldwide devoted entirely to space education since 1987. Its aim is to develop the future leaders of the world space community by providing interdisciplinary educational programs to students and space professionals in an international, intercultural environment.
