Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) will help to promote digital literacy among people over 65 years old and young university students, within the scope of the DIGILIFE project.

The IPN Training Department will develop the Portuguese pilot, in cooperation with Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra. This pilot will cover older adults aged between 65 and 74 and young university volunteers aged between 20 and 25.

The project will address both the needs of adults aged 65+ to be included in the society and to be independent through the use of digital technologies, and the need of university students to develop new experiences of 'real work' while participating socially as active citizens.

In the first moment, a needs analysis will be carried out to evaluate the difficulties and specific demands of older adults. Afterwards, IPN will develop a methodology to transfer the knowledge to trainers (young students) and trainees (older adults). Furthermore, the IPN will develop the evaluation methods, techniques and instruments applied in different EU countries.

Furthermore, the project intends to act as a trial for a larger intra-generational digital transformation platform to be implemented in all European countries to serve all ages through digital transformation, lifelong learning and social connection.

On 9 March, the presentation session of the Erasmus + DIGILIFE project on national territory took place, boosted by the IPN in collaboration with Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra. During the session it were introduced the main objectives for this projects, the methodologies to apply and the next tasks to develop, namely the need analysis in the field of digital literacy.

The session was attended by the IPN and representatives of the Coimbra City Council, the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra, the Miguel Torga Higher Institute, the Coimbra Higher School of Education, the Rainha Santa Isabel Centre, the São Pedro Social Centre and the Senior Education School Programme promoted by the Instituto Humanus and Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra.

The project will last 26 months, financed by the Erasmus+ Programme: KA220-ADU - Partnerships for Cooperation in Adult Education, of the European Commission and counts with 6 European partners: Instituto Pedro Nunes (Portugal), Cáritas Coimbra (Portugal), Plataforma del Voluntariado (Spain), People Behind (Greece), Università Degli Studi Di Roma Tor Vergata (Italy) and Fondazione Garagerasmus (Italy), coordinator of the project.
