Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) organised, on November 3 and 4, the EIT Health Healthcare Investor Forum, an event promoted by EIT Health InnoStars. The event took place at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento and was attended by more than 100 startups and 50 investors, with a total of around 300 participants over the two days.

The first day began with a networking lunch, during which the state of venture capital investment in health was discussed. This was followed by two workshops on internationalisation to domestic markets with the EIT Health bridgehead and on EU funding with the EIT Health EIC team.

The end of the day was marked by several pitch sessions, where innovators were able to present their solutions in the health area and discuss them with the various investors present.

Jorge Pimenta, IPN's Director of Innovation, highlights that "the opportunities provided during this event reinforce the importance of the EIT Health network in health innovation, due to the complementarity of partners and the international scope. Technology is an essential dimension for improving health care and startups are one of the engines of change. The 24 start-ups that made their pitch to investors were able to demonstrate this. The 20 projects of the RIS Innovation call initiative, despite still being at an early stage, were also able to arouse much interest in the solutions under development and prove the importance of applied research."

The second day was dedicated to digital health, addressing topics such as medical devices, digital therapies and open innovation.

Marta Passadouro, Ecosystem Lead for Portugal, EIT Health InnoStars, mentions that "it was an important event to position EIT Health InnoStarts in the national panorama of health innovation, giving the opportunity to our partners and startups to have greater visibility with investors and relevant stakeholders of the ecosystem and, therefore, create synergies that will be beneficial for the future of Health in Portugal."

The IPN's Automation and Systems Lab was also present at this event. Participants were able to interact with the solutions for telerehabilitation, FaceRehab, a rehabilitation support technology for facial paralysis, and CogniViTra, a unique solution that integrates cognitive training, physical and social stimulation. In addition, they presented the Regulatory Services for Medical Devices and the Innovative Care Network of the Niccolla project.
