IPN gets visits from SSP 2022 students
General

Students from the 2022 Space Studies Program visited IPN on July 25th.

A result of the general interest of experts at the International Space University (ISU) and of the students, the visit started with two brief presentations: the first about IPN, conducted by Ana Jegundo, and a second one related to ESA Space Solutions Portugal, conducted by Pedro Lacerda.

Afterwards, the students and professors had the opportunity to visit IPN’s facilities, as well as some of the companies there. Our Laboratory for Wear, Testing and Materials (LED&MAT), Laboratory for Automatics and Systems (LAS) and Laboratory for Phytopathology (FITOLAB) were also a part of the visit.

Promoted by the International Space University (ISU), the Space Studies Program is an intense two-month professional development course for postgraduate students and professionals of all disciplines. The curriculum covers the principal space related fields, both non-technical and technical and ranges from policy and law, business and management and humanities to life sciences, engineering, physical sciences, and space applications.

The course’s study plan includes several masterclasses, interactive seminars and lectures with renowed national and international especialists. The visit to IPN was a part of a series of professional visits that also make up the course’s calendar.

During the course, the SSP participantes are dedicated to projects aimed at facing the current challenges in the national and international space ecosystem. The team work and consultancy projects developed include exploring the opportunities that arise through synergies between the space and non-space sectors, space-ocean-climate interactions, the use of microgravity to develop new businesses, research and development in microgravity for the benefit of all, and cooperation on the Chinese Space Station.

This course, already in its 34th Edition, is taking place in Oeiras at the Instituto Superior Técnico’s Taguspark Campus. The course that started at the end of june and runs until 26 August is being co-organized by the Portuguese Space Agency – Portugal Space and IST and has 107 participants from 37 nationalities, nine of which are Portuguese.
