Challenge

Since 2008, Europe has suffered the most severe economic crisis of the last 50 years and for the first time there are over 25 million unemployed. In Portugal, this situation is even more acute. As the 2013 ENTREPRENEURSHIP 2020 ACTION PLAN mentions, more entrepreneurs are needed to return Europe to growth and higher levels of employment. Universities and institutions present in this consortium have a clear understanding of the need to strengthen the focus on technology transfer and technological entrepreneurship to overcome this challenge.

Solution

Promoting entrepreneurship among students and young researchers belonging to the universe of the scientific and technological system by giving them the necessary skills for the business implementation of their ideas and projects, by technology transfer and the creation of spin-off university companies, as well as the promotion of innovation as tool to succeed in the market. GAPI3 capitalises on the know-how generated in the previous project, GAPI 2.0 - Knowledge Valorisation Offices launched in 2009 aiming to valorise the knowledge generated by companies, entrepreneurs and institutions within the higher education and scientific system, and the GAPI initiative - Support Offices for the Promotion of Industrial Property, launched in 2002 and promoted by the INPI - National Institute of Industrial Property, which had the mission of promoting the value of knowledge through the use of the industrial property system by innovation ecosystem users.
